Ashley Fuery, Co-Host

I am just an ordinary person trying to do extraordinary things. I have epilepsy, but it does not define me. I love sports, comedy, dancing and music, but most importantly, watching my favorite show: Gray's Anatomy. I work in the mental health field and I love helping people every day. I live by the following: "Be who you are, and not what the world wants you to be!"

I’m a Master’s in Public Health Student who is passionate about helping others. I was born in Colombia, but was fortunate enough to have lived in 6 different countries as I grew up. I love science, sports, trying new foods, and am a die-hard Boston Celtics fan. One day I hope to go to medical school and become a physician that works with underserved populations.

I’m  a junior in Communications at Thomas Edison State University, and I’m passionate about writing and helping people find hope and joy despite life’s many challenges. I currently work as a personal care attendant for my special needs brother, manage the creative media for my church, and run a personal blog. When I’m not studying or working, you’ll find me traveling to visit my friends in many pockets of the US, drinking coffee, reading good books, or marathoning Gilmore Girls.

I'm an undergraduate student studying Biomedical Engineering. I am really interested in neuroengineering and computational neurobiology. I was born and raised in Greece and as I was growing up I became really interested in music and started playing the piano at the age of 9. I also love swimming, making DIY crafts, and travelling to new places. I aspire to become a Physician so as to conduct clinical research for discovering new ways of combating neurodegenerative disorders.

Episode Transcriptions

In the pilot episode of Epilepsy Voices, we hear from Ashley, a mental health professional diagnosed with a rare form of epilepsy that affects only 100 families in the world. At sixteen, Ashley’s world was turned upside down when she received her diagnosis and had to find a new normal, all while navigating college, relationships, and her career. She gives advice on finding support and prioritizing self-care, and speaks words of encouragement to anyone living with epilepsy who’s trying to find hope.
